Dinner Talk by
Cultural Consultant Noelani Chang on
Culture and Heritage Preservation in a Modern Society
For those interested in culture, we have invited cultural consultant, Noelani Chang, from Hawaii to give a talk on Culture and Heritage Preservation in a Modern Society.
More of us are seeing the value of heritage preservation. This is shown in the enthusiasm expressed in the organization of the first 「夫子廟會」event and increasing support from society for preservation of heritage sites and buildings. Similarly, Hawaiian heritage and culture has suffered from a period of banishment in the past but is now becoming the premier tourist attraction in Hawaii. We shall be able to gain some insights on cultural development in Hong Kong through the understanding of another culture.
Noelani Chang is a cultural consultant and a hula schoolmistress in Waianae, Hawaii, in the past 14 years. She teaches at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and travels regularly to cities in Japan and the mainland US to conduct seminars and workshops. We are honoured to be able to invite her to share her knowledge with us on this Asian trip.
