HKUGA Policy Group Monthly lunch – December 2009
Dubai World – a Crisis or a Lesson?
About the Topic
Following 2 consecutive lunch talks on public governance in October and November, we shall switch again our focus on economic and financial hot topics for the December Lunch to be held this Friday (11 Dec). This time, we have invited Mr. Joe Lo (羅念祖先生) to share with us his observations and analysis of the recent Dubai World incident. We are sure that the sharing would also help to shed some light on our economic outlook for 2010.
About the Speaker
Joe Lo is a veteran economist with nearly two decades of experience in economic and financial market research. After attaining a master degree in economics at the University of Hong Kong in 1989, Mr. Lo joined HSBC as an economist specializing in country risk analysis and global economic research. During his four years with HSBC, he performed detailed analyses of Middle Eastern economies and banking industries. In 1994, Mr. Lo joined Citicorp as a North Asia senior economist.
Mr. Lo's expertise was frequently tapped by the mass media and made visible to the public in the form of commentaries on economic and financial issues. He also represented Citicorp in advising the HKSAR Government on economic policies and developments in the financial market. To utilize his knowledge directly in making investment decisions, Mr. Lo left Citicorp early this year and joined a fixed-income hedge fund that specializes in Asian dollar bonds.
Please act quickly to reserve a seat for the lunch. As usual, Charles LO - convener of our economic and financial subgroup, will help to convene the lunch sharing.
